What we do
Everything below is done on site with the tools already in the van. If a job genuinely needs a lift or a dealer-only computer, we say so on the phone before we drive out — we would rather lose the call than waste your afternoon.
Car cranks but won't catch, clicks once and dies, or the dash goes dark. We test the battery under load, check the charging system, then trace the starter circuit and grounds before replacing anything. Most no-starts in winter are a battery past its fourth birthday — we'll tell you honestly when it's just that.
Pads, rotors, calipers and brake fluid. We measure pad thickness and rotor runout in front of you and show you the numbers before we quote. Squealing, grinding, a soft pedal or a pulsing wheel — all diagnosable in the driveway in about twenty minutes.
Full OBD-II scan with live sensor data, not just a code read. We pull freeze-frame information, watch fuel trims and misfire counters while the engine runs, and give you a written explanation of what the code actually means for your car.
Full synthetic oil and filter, plus a 30-point walkaround: tire pressures, coolant, washer fluid, belts, battery terminals, wipers, brake fluid level. We reset the maintenance light and log the mileage so your service history stays intact.
Winter-to-all-season changeovers at your house, including torque to spec and a pressure set on all four. We also do flat repairs, TPMS sensor replacement and rotation. Book the whole street and we'll do them back to back.
Buying used and want a second opinion before you hand over cash? We meet you at the seller's address, put the car on ramps, and go through structure, fluids, brakes, suspension, tires, codes and bodywork. You get a plain-language report the same evening with photos and a rough cost for anything that needs doing — usually the cheapest money you'll spend on a used car.
How a callout runs
Tell us the year, make, model and what it's doing. If it's a symptom we can narrow down over the phone, we will — sometimes it's a five-minute fix you can do yourself, and we'll say so rather than drive out.
You get a firm price range on the phone and a firm price once we've looked at the car. Nothing gets replaced without your yes. Parts are sourced same-day from suppliers on Midwest Rd and in Markham.
The van carries a compressor, jacks, stands, a full socket set, a scan tool and the common parts for the top twenty models on the road. All we need is a legal parking spot and about two car lengths of room.
Every replaced component goes in a box in your trunk unless you tell us to take it. The invoice lists parts and labour separately, and the parts carry a 12-month warranty.
Who you're calling
Costa started out in a two-bay shop on the Danforth in the mid-nineties, doing the kind of work that gets handed to the apprentice at a dealership: brakes, exhaust, timing belts, the jobs nobody wants. When the lease came up in 2009 he bought a van instead and never looked back. The reasoning was simple — the expensive part of car repair was never the repair. It was the tow, the day off work, the shuttle that never came.
Today Costa's Mobile runs out of a unit at 133 Midwest Rd, just off Kennedy north of Lawrence, and covers Markham, Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax and the eastern edge of North York. It's still one mechanic and one van most days. That's deliberate. You get the same person on the phone, the same person under the car, and the same person explaining the invoice — which is why the shop has never needed to advertise much beyond word of mouth in the neighbourhoods it serves.
The van is a 2019 Transit with a 60-gallon compressor, a two-post-free jacking setup, a Launch scan tool for domestic, Japanese and European makes, and a stocked parts shelf for the Corolla, Civic, RAV4, CR-V, Elantra, Mazda3 and F-150 that make up most of the calls. Anything we don't carry, we pick up on the way.
From the neighbourhood
Battery died in the Costco lot on Markham Rd on a Saturday morning. Costa was there in forty minutes with the right group size in the van. Charged me less than the dealer quoted for the part alone.
Had a grinding noise the dealership said needed a whole new caliper assembly. Costa measured everything in my driveway, showed me the rotor, and did pads and rotors for about a third of that. Two winters later, still quiet.
He talked me out of a repair I didn't need. That's the whole review. My old mechanic would have just done it and billed me.
Used him for a pre-purchase inspection on a used RAV4. Found a leaking rear shock and a repaired quarter panel the seller hadn't mentioned. Saved me about four thousand dollars and a lot of grief.

Answered Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Outside those hours, leave a voicemail — it gets checked first thing the next morning.
